Holy Week has started at Messiah Lutheran Church, Staten Island NY. Pastor Anna Gordy led the youth of the congregation into service with a procession of the Palms followed by the blessing of the Palms. A reading of the Passion Gospel (Mark 14:1 – 15:47) by members of the church including special guest reader Rev. Chris Mietlowski.

Another successful St. Patrick’s Dinner at Messiah Lutheran Church. Food, fellowship and raffles. Join us again next year as we carry on this wonderful tradition. Thank you to all who attended and to the organizers of the event.

Celebrating 100 Years

One Hundred Years! From Fabian Street to Jefferson Blvd., from Pastor Nordstrom to Pastor Squire, from 1923 to 2023, 100 years have passed in the life of the church. One hundred years transcribed in the decisions of hundreds of singular lives. The faces, the names, the personalities that animate an idea, that carry a faith that manifest each personal interpretation of one Theme—These make a church!

Advent Sunday Wreath Making and Fellowship 2023 

Another Messiah Holiday tradition.  Advent Sunday Wreath Making and Crafts was a great Success.  Members came together for fellowship, lunch and wreath making.  Our Sunday School Children joined in the holiday fun and made ornaments.  Thank you to all who helped make this long running Messiah Lutheran Tradition a great success.

Holiday Fair 2023

 Messiah Lutheran Held its First Holiday Fair on November 4th 2023.  We had a great tuen out of Vendors and shoppers.  It was a great way to start the Holiday Season and spread some fellowship.  

We look forward to seeing everyone next year!

 

CHRISTMAS-AT-SEA 2023

A Holiday Initiative 

Once again members of the Messiah Lutheran Congregation spearheaded by JoAnn Nolemi have donated to the annual “Christmas at Sea”.  What might otherwise have been another lonely night at sea during this pandemic becomes a joyous occasion, because complete strangers ashore have taken the time to share the spirit of Christmas with these otherwise invisible seafarers!  Thank you tot the members of Messiah Lutheran and the Girl Scouts for putting together the satchels. 

 

 

 

 

 

Blessing of the Animals 2020

Messiah Lutheran Church continues the Annual Blessing of the Animals.  Francis of Assisi, who died on Oct. 4, 1226. Well-known for his love for all creatures, commemorations for Francis often include a blessing of the animals. 

 

Special visit from Renee Wicklund, MNYS Vice President

Special presentation of the “Service to Veterans Award” to JoAnne Nolemi in Recgonition for her Commitment to the Men and Women who Served Our Great Nation presented by the American Legion Watkins-Kellet Post 277.  

Award was presented to JoAnne Nolemi by Al Klingle.

Pastor Garry Squire is joined by special guest Pastor Percy Butiku.  Pastor Butiku is the Assistant to the Bishop for Multicultural Mission.  She is the recipiant of Kvanda Scholarship Award.
